THE COMMITTEES        

On 4 December 1894 the first parish meeting was held in Angmering and eleven councillors were elected to form the first Council. It has existed ever since and now has thirteen members who are elected every four years.  They serve on a voluntary basis.

The Council has an office in the Village at The Corner House in the Square.  This is open to the public from 9am - 1pm each weekday.   The Parish Council meets every 6 weeks in The Angmering Community Centre.

There are five sub-committees which meet in the Parish Council office.

  • Environment  - responsible for matters relating to the general environment and management of recreation and open spaces including: Bramley Green Open Spaces, Aubrey Fletcher Field, St Nicholas Garden, the Village Green, the bank opposite the Village Hall, land in Water Lane, garden areas in the Village centre, pocket parks, public toilets, Grounds Management Contracts, Allotments, Village enhancement, Tree planting and flower beds.
  • Leisure - Play areas, Parish Mapping, Nomination Village Hall Management Committee, Skate Park, Community Centre Running Costs, Newsletter, Notice Boards, Signage, War Memorial, Palmer Road Recreation Ground, Traders Evening, Youth Activities.
  • Highways - responsible for matters relating to carriageways, footways and verges on roads within the Parish including liaison with West Sussex County Council on highways matters, street lighting, grass cutting (verges), car parking, bus shelters/bus stops, litter control, public seats, litter and dog bins on highways and recreation grounds, street naming, Public Rights of Way, Twittens.
  • Policy and Finance - responsible for Staff Conditions, Acquisition of Land, Fund Raising, Productivity of Office, Insurances, Grant Allocations, Monitoring and report on items passed to them, generally monitoring performance of each Committee, youth council, Community Centre, Devolution of Services, Banking procedures, Internal Audit - both regards the Internal Auditor and the monthly bank reconciliation audit to meet the requirements of the fidelity guarantee insurance, Investments, Monitoring income and expenditure and reports to spending Committees, Year end accounts, Annual budget -  other financial forecasts as required, Allotments.
  • Planning and Conservation  - responsible for comments and recommendations on local planning applications, liaison with the local planning authorities on planning matters, Conservation issues in relation to planning, Responding to Structure Plans and Local Plans, Representing the Parish Council at Public Inquiries, South Downs National Park.
